Movie #1 of 2012: War Horse
I armed myself with a pack of tissues and hesitantly followed my husband into the theater. And guess what? It wasn’t nearly as tear-inducing as I had expected! Yes, it was sad and the horse was pretty, but somehow my heartstrings weren’t tugged as severely as I had thought. Despite the film taking place during wartime, there were several non-battlefield scenes, which I appreciated. An entire movie of horses in battle would have been exhausting, but I found it well-balanced in that way. Enough to be frightening and get your heart racing, but not so much that you were left emotionally wasted. I couldn’t help but wonder, though: How do they film all of this? How much of it is a well-trained horse and how much of it is the magic of computer animation? It boggles the mind.
