Kimchi Donuts from Dunkin’ Donuts in Korea | Serious Eats
I’m probably the only person I know who thinks this sounds/looks absolutely delicious. It’s like a Korean version of curry pan! MMMMMM.

A lot of it has to do with my music background. I studied voice and piano fairly seriously during my elementary and high school days, and as such, I became very attuned to rhythm and cadence and voice. So what happens when I read is that I can “hear” the narrative and dialogue in my head, but what’s odd is that I’m both aware of the book at, say, an LP rate (33 1/3 revolutions per minute) but in my head it translates to roughly a 78.
Sarah Weinman, who read 462 books in 2008, on how she does it. I wonder if my musical background has anything to do with my fast reading skills…?

This is from early September, but demonstrates one of the reasons why anthropology appealed to me. Instead of forcing the women to adapt to Western birthing practices and customs, they worked with the local women to figure out how they could make birth safer in that area while still maintaining crucial aspects of the local birthing culture. It’s about as close to a win/win as I can imagine in this type of situation.

My amazing coworkers and their costumes:

Vanessa as Waldo, as in Where’s Waldo?

Alice as a cavewoman riding a T-rex.

Rodrigo as a cowboy riding a horse.

Alice and Rodrigo’s costumes are actually made for large toddlers, but they reconstructed them to fit. You can’t get the full effect here, but they were AWESOME. Alice also had a dog bone in her hair to complete the outfit, and was actually barked at by a dog on our walk to lunch today. HILARIOUS.

Speaking of dessert, Alice and I shared a “small” sundae yesterday except the guy working “accidentally” made the sundae too big.
